The Gathering Sticks of Austin

Here, like in New Orleans at JazzFest, half the show is in the air above the crowd as groups of fans broadcast their locations with ornate marker poles.

I was happy to see the return of the Green Cartoon Bombshell from last year. I also spotted Curious "funky." George again, but only after my little camera conked out on the second day.

This blue frog escaped late on the second day during Jet's performance. It spiraled lazily past the setting sun and I again cursed my little camera for conking out.

Waiting by the SBC stage for Lucinda Williams we overheard one of the 40% of the fans constantly on their cellphones say something along the lines of "We're at SBC, right behind the Captain Morgan bottle." People were using other people's sticks to mark themselves.
